The 12ft Oboe is a full bodied transom sterned sailing dinghy, inspired by the designs of maritime historian, Howard I Chapelle. She has a fine entry forward and flattens out towards the stern like an IOR racer. A pronounced sheer sweeps up to a relatively high bow, making for a good dry sea boat.
Planked with mahogany marine plywood and fitted out in oak and mahogany with copper riveted oak ribs, the layout is standard with plenty of space in the bows for picnic baskets or spare clothes. The spars are clear varnished fir and the mast for the gunter rig is stepped on the forward thwart supported by a wooden post beneath. There is a transom hung rudder with a lifting blade and the ¾ inch plywood centre plate swivels on a stainless steel bolt in the casing
